Two Day Workshop Times - 6:30-9:30 PM (June 6th and 7th)
Are you an artist who has played with the idea of integrating shadow puppetry into your work? Are you a teacher with an overhead projector who wants some ideas of how to use it in your classroom? Are you a curious and creative human who wants to learn how to make an animation that can be performed live? This playful hands-on workshop will give you the skills to create your own short piece of shadow theatre! We will discover fun & effective performance techniques, concept & design ideas, storyboarding, crafting, and how to put it all together into a show.
The skills gained from this workshop will assist in creating a theatre piece that will fit into a larger project that RASS has acquired funding for, entitled “Ymir, why am I here?”
Mind of a Snail has been developing a multilayered style of visual storytelling using overhead projectors as their main light source. Mind of a Snail is a shadow puppetry duo currently based out of Vancouver BC. Since 2003, Chloé Ziner and Jessica Gabriel have been developing a multi-layered style of visual storytelling using overhead projectors as their main light source. Their performances play at the intersection of puppetry, visual arts, clowning & music. They have toured their award-winning shows across Canada, USA, and Taiwan. As artistic collaborators, they are interested in exploring beyond the boundaries of traditional theatre; and creating magical immersive experiences for their audiences and workshop participants.
This workshop is generously supported by BC Touring Council, The Province of British Columbia, and British Columbia Arts Council.
