Ymir 'Why Am I Here?' Project

This is a collaborative art project that is led by the people of Ymir. In many ways Ymir is representative of many small rural towns in the Kootenays, and within  Canada, which were once resource based but have since transitioned.

The people who have chosen to live here in the past and present, are interesting humans  who are full of stories, history  and characters. The aim of this project is to capture the spirit of these people and this beautiful place.

This is a multimedia project that will incorporate workshops, writing, collecting and archiving stories. We will then transform these stories of the past and present into a professional production that will be presented in 2018.

mind of a snail

Mind of a Snail is a shadow puppetry duo currently based out of Vancouver, BC.

Since 2003, Chloé Ziner and Jessica Gabriel have been developing a multi-layered style of visual storytelling using overhead projectors as their main light source. Their performances play at the intersection of visual arts, clowning & music. As artistic collaborators, they are interested in exploring beyond the boundaries of traditional theatre, and creating magical immersive experiences for their audiences. Mind of a Snail’s shadow theatre has been described as an early National Film Board animation created live before your eyes.

Chloe and Jessica will be facilitating several workshops to help flesh out stories and sections of the presentation.
